Spam & Fake Lead Filtering
Protect your time by filtering out spam messages, fake leads, and time-wasters before they reach you.
Protecting Your Time
Not every lead is worth your attention. Some are spam, some are competitors snooping, and some are just kids messing around with your contact form.
What spam filtering catches: - Spam messages — Unsolicited sales pitches and scam attempts - Fake contact info — Test emails, fake phone numbers, keyboard mashing - Known bad actors — People you've blacklisted before - High-risk phone numbers — Numbers flagged for suspicious activity
The benefit: You spend time on real leads, not sorting through junk. Spam gets caught before it wastes your time or triggers unnecessary responses.
How Spam Detection Works
SalesPartner checks incoming leads against several filters before they reach you.
Phase 1: Blacklist check First, we check if this person is on your blacklist. If you've blocked them before, they can't get through again.
Phase 2: Spam keyword check Messages are scanned for known spam phrases. Things like "get rich quick," "limited time offer," or obvious scam language trigger a block.
Phase 3: Fake data detection Contact information is checked for obvious fakes: - Test emails (test@test.com, fake@example.com) - Repeated digits (555-555-5555, 1234567890) - Keyboard patterns (qwerty, asdf) - Known fake names (Test, Admin, Demo)
Phase 4: Phone validation (enhanced) For businesses with enhanced phone lookup, numbers are checked for SMS pumping risk—fraudulent numbers used to send spam.
Speed: These checks happen instantly when a lead comes in. Real leads aren't delayed.
Types of Spam Blocked
The spam filter catches several categories of unwanted messages.
Financial spam: - Get rich quick schemes - Investment scams - Work-from-home promises - Cryptocurrency pitches
Generic spam: - "Congratulations you won" messages - Free trial scams - Aggressive sales tactics - Urgent action required
Obvious test data: - Email addresses like test@test.com or user@example.com - Phone numbers that are all the same digit - Names like "Test" or "asdf"
Adult content: - Explicit language - Adult services offers
Scam indicators: - Wire transfer requests - Account verification scams - Prize claims
The system updates as new spam patterns emerge. You're protected against both classic scams and new tactics.
What Happens to Spam
When a lead fails spam checks, here's what happens.
The lead is blocked: The message doesn't reach you or your team. It's caught at the door.
It's logged: SalesPartner records that a spam attempt was blocked. This helps track patterns and improve filtering.
No response is sent: Spam doesn't get a reply. There's no conversation, no engagement—just silence.
You can review (optional): Some businesses like to review what was blocked. You can check your spam log to see what's been caught. This helps ensure real leads aren't accidentally filtered.
The sender doesn't know: Blocked senders aren't told they were blocked. They just don't get a response. This prevents them from adjusting their approach to get through.
Adjusting Settings
You can customize how aggressive the spam filtering is.
Enable or disable: Spam filtering can be turned on or off entirely. We recommend keeping it on.
Blacklist management: Add specific email addresses or phone numbers to your blacklist. Anyone on this list is automatically blocked.
Custom keywords: Add your own spam keywords beyond the defaults. If you're getting repeated spam about a specific topic, add those terms.
Fake data detection: Toggle fake data detection on or off. It catches test submissions but might be too strict for some businesses.
Phone lookup level: Choose basic or enhanced phone validation. Enhanced includes SMS pumping risk detection.
To adjust settings: 1. Go to Settings 2. Find Spam Shield or Lead Filtering 3. Toggle options and add to your blacklist as needed
Start with defaults. Adjust if you notice either too much spam getting through or too many real leads getting blocked.
If Real Leads Get Blocked
Sometimes a real lead might get caught by the filter. Here's how to handle it.
Check the spam log: Review recently blocked leads. Look for legitimate inquiries that were incorrectly flagged.
Common false positives: - Business emails that look generic (info@company.com) - New phone numbers that haven't built reputation - Messages that accidentally contain flagged words
To unblock someone: If you find a real lead in the spam log, you can whitelist their contact info. Future messages from them will go through.
Adjust sensitivity: If you're getting too many false positives, consider: - Turning off fake data detection - Removing overly broad spam keywords - Using basic instead of enhanced phone lookup
The tradeoff: More aggressive filtering catches more spam but risks blocking real leads. Less aggressive filtering lets more through but requires more sorting. Find the balance that works for your business.
Best practice: Review your spam log weekly at first. Once you're confident the settings are right, monthly checks are usually enough.
